I've been meaning to create a progressive scrapbook page for a long time, & am so happy that I finally got to it! I've been invited to speak about scrapbooking at a Baby & Me class here in my town (Pine Brook, NJ) next week. I'm looking forward to sharing my love of scrapbooking with these new moms.
What's a progressive page? Basically, you start out with a small scrapbook page - for instance a 6x6" page. These are a great place to start, as they're small & not intimidating - less paper to fill! You can leave these as-is and fill a 6x6" scrapbook. Or, you can take your finished 6x6" page and use it as an element on a larger (8.5x11", 8x8" or 12x12") page. I started with my 6x6 page and used it to create an 8.5x11" page, and then used this larger page as an element on a 12x12" page.
My recommendation for new moms? Make three identical 6x6" pages. Use two of these 'as-is' to create 6x6" scrapbooks for grandparents. Use the third and build a progressive page for your own scrapbook! Once your supplies are out, it's simple to make three, and you'll end up with two great gifts!
I used the brand new Moments & Milestones Simply Scrappin' Kit (#115694). This is a great baby scrapbooking kit, suitable for boys or girls. The self-adhesive elements in the kit contain lots of wonderful journalling blocks. The colors So Saffron, Certainly Celery, Basic Gray and Tempting Turquoise are fresh, pretty and soft - perfect for baby pictures. I paired it with the Nursery Necessities stamp set (#113506).
Here's the 6x6" page I started with. This will be the 'make and take' that the new moms will make at the class. It's cute & simple, and I hope it's a non-threatening introduction to scrapbooking! Here are some of the features:
- So Saffron textured card stock & Certainly Celery patterned paper from Moments & Milestones
- stamped moon and star are from Nursery Necessities
- dots were added to the photo corners with a white gel pen to complement the patterned paper
- the star & photo corners are up on dimensionals
Here's the same 6x6" page used as an element on a larger 8.5x11" page. Here are some of the features:
And here's the final 12x12 page:
Some of the features of this page are:
- I stamped the sailboat from Nursery Necessities directly on the textured Celery card stock. I stamped it again in So Saffron and Tempting Turquoise on Whisper White paper and cut out the sails. I popped the sails up on dimensional for a little texture and interest.
- I covered the bottom of the Turquoise page with a strip of yellow and white striped paper from the Moments & Milestones kit, layered on So Saffron Cardstock.
- I added 3 punched stars, each with a So Saffron brad on this strip
- I added a different journalling element from the kit right on top of the ribbon
The small 6x6 page will be a free Make and Take at the Baby and Me class. The larger pages were designed to show how flexible you can be when building your pages (and to satisfy my urge to create a Progressive Page!). Next on the list: I'll be creating a corresponding 12x12 page, and soon I'll be offering a baby-themed, two-page layout scrapbooking class. If you're in the northern New Jersey area, stay tuned for information!

The progressive scrapbook page idea is just what I needed to hear about! I have grappled with scrapbooking for years. I had gone to workshops hosted by Creative Memories but always lamented at how great everyone else's scrapbooks were coming along and mine just looked so weak!
Thank you for a terrific idea! Now I can go forth and conquer!
