The Top Note Die for the Sizzix Big Shot has got to be my all-time favorite accessory! It's perfect for cards, scrapbooking and 3-D projects also. Today I'm sharing a box made with the Top Note die (this die is exclusive to Stampin' Up!). I made this box (designed by my upline, Jen Peel) at a demonstrator-only class that I attended recently.

We used the Raspberry Tart (#113975) paper for this box. When I first saw this patterned paper, it didn't really appeal to me, but I have to tell you that it's gorgeous in person! We topped it off with Kiwi Kiss/Very Vanilla ribbon and a little flower/stem made with the Sweetest Stem embosslit (another SU! exclusive for the Big Shot). This box can hold a gift card (barely), but the next time I make one, I'll tweak the measurements a bit to make the box slightly larger (and yes, I'll share!).

There are TONS of gift-giving occasions coming up soon, and this box is perfect and so easily adaptable. Fifth Avenue Floral

Sorry for my recent lack of posts. My little guy's been sick, and I've been struck by the spring cleaning bug. When that strikes, it's better just to go with the flow, KWIM? Less of an ordeal when you're actually in the mood!

Here's a card that we'll be making at the final session of my "Cards for Her" class on Friday morning. There's still time to sign up for this rubber stamping class in my eastern Morris County, NJ home. Contact me, or reserve your spot with your PayPal Payment below. We're making 5 different feminine cards, easily adaptable for Mother's Day, Teacher's Appreciation, Birthday, Friendship, Get Well, etc. We'll also be using a few different fun techniques. Class fee of $20 includes all supplies, instruction & envelopes. Date & time are Friday, May 1, 9:30-11:30 AM.

For this card I used the versatile Fifth Avenue Floral (#113734) stamp set. I based this card on one designed by my upline. I changed the colors, added a layer & a button. I love how this incorporated lots of the In Colors for this year. Strange to think that we'll be losing these colors in a few months - now's a great time to start stashing them!

I overlapped the images on the main panel, but this stamp set would be great for using the masking technique. Masking would give a more elegant look - this one's a little riotous. Are you guys familiar with the masking technique? If you'd like to know more, let me know - I'd be happy to do a quick how-to, complete with pictures!

Feminine Card - Oval All & Tea Party

Today I've got a feminine card to share. There are so many occasions coming up shortly (Mother's Day, Teacher's Appreciation, etc.). A card like this can be used for any occasion, simply by altering the sentiment, or by what you chose to stamp or write inside.

I used the Oval All stamp set from the Occasions Mini Catalog. This set makes it a snap to put together a card! I also used the Tea Party patterned paper, which is so feminine and springy! Speaking of spring, it's a lovely day here in Northern NJ, so I'm rushing out to enjoy! Happy Friday!

One quick thing: this is one of the cards that we made at my "Cards for Her" class last night. I'm offering this same class next week. It's scheduled for Tuesday the 28th at 9:30 in my Morris County, NJ home. By popular request, I'm also offering it on Friday morning, May 1 - also at 9:30. Class fee is $20. Masculine Cards - That's All Folks!

This is my final post containing masculine cards from a recent swap. First though, here's another card of my own design. This wasn't included in the swap, but this seems like a good place to share it:

 

As in yesterday's post, the patterned paper is from SU's retired Ghostly Greetings paper. This striped paper isn't Halloween-y at all and great for masculine cards! The tree image is from Lovely As a Tree (#115026) and is embossed with black embossing powder.

Do you like that little line of black diamonds that finishes off the top of the patterned paper? They are little 1/2" squares. I thought this was a nice, and masculine, alternative to ribbon. You can punch them if you have a 1/2" square punch. I don't, so I did it the "old-fasioned" way:

 

And here is the final card that I received in the swap - it's my favorite, and it's designed by Dawn Byers. I love how she used the Top Note die, and I like the use of the Sporting (#115072) stamp set.

Just Jawing & More Masculine Cards

In keeping with my masculine card theme, here's a card I made a while ago and forgot to share. I used the Just Jawing (#111660) stamp set, which you can see is not just for Halloween! I made this card for a swap back in January - the theme was birthdays, and I chose the juvenile male category. A few months later, I covered up the "Happy Birthday" sentiment that I'd stamped inside the card with more card stock, and it was a generic card that I sent to a musician friend of mine. Very versatile!

 

The bandana is made from the retired Ghostly Greetings - last year's Halloween paper. If you missed out on that paper, you could replicate the look with the Scary Skulls Stampin' Around wheel (#113119) and make your own! To make it fit, I just stamped the top part of the skull's head along the edge of a piece of paper and cut it out. No need to stamp the full image & waste that precious DSP!

So, back to the swap cards - here are two more. Tomorrow I'll be wrapping up my feature of masculine cards with the one that was my favorite, so be sure to check back!

 

Here's a simple masculine birthday card featuring Big Bold Birthday (#114926) designed by Mary Jo Haggerty. The colors keep a classic birthday cupcake masculine.

 

Diane Dearth designed this Western-themed card using Wanted (#115106), and used a cool filmstrip technique to showcase one repeated image.

Masculine Cards - Part 3

Today I've got more masculine cards to share from a recent swap that I participated in. Here goes:

 

This card, designed by Chris Litchfield, features the stamp set Branch Out (#113200), as well as the new To the Nines Specialty Paper (beautiful,textured heavyweight card stock). Branch Out is a great set, as it's got some accessory stamps included in the set. Changing around the accessories and the colors you use can easily adapt this stamp set for a variety of seasons and occasions.

This next card, designed by Stephanie Rodgers, uses Sense of Time (#113804) from the Occasions Mini Catalog. This is a great set, well-suited for masculine cards. Fun Top Note Shape

I'm taking a quick break from the masculine cards I've been sharing for something else fun! I recently learned how make a fun new shape using the Top Note die for the Big Shot. I learned this little trick from Angel, a fellow Stampin' Up! demonstrator in Canada (I don't think she blogs). Angel claims not to be the inventor, but was sharing herself.

I used the set Special Blessings (#113411), which is perfect for so many occasions this time of year (really, any time of year, but 'tis the season for Communion and Wedding cards!)

 

Don't you love that shape? Just think of all of the possibilities! Here's a quick peek inside (I love to decorate the inside - it's a great touch and uses up some scraps of that precious patterned paper!):

More Masculine Cards

Welcome to Day 2 of the cards from a Masculine card swap I participated in. Don't miss yesterday's post, with two other masculine card samples. Today's cards showcase cards made with stamp sets from the new Occasions Mini Catalog. This one was designed by Lyn Puliafico (who also organized the swap - thank again, Lyn!). This little golfer guy from And Many Mower (#113724) is too cute with his knobby knees, and I love the color scheme pulled from the Manchester Designer Paper. The Twill Ribbon goes great with that paper, don't you think?

The second card, a 3x6" Father's Day card designed by Melissa Damon, features another Occasions set, Eight Great Greetings (#115421). This is a great, all-purpose set that covers a variety of occasions. I like the simplicity of this card. Melissa textured the white cardstock by running it through the Big Shot with the woodgrain Texturz Plate. Simple, clean, and masculine!
