OK, I've been asked for a tutorial for the Frankenstein backpack goody bag that I posted earlier, so I'll share it with everyone! Remember, this is based on a tutorial for a 2-5-7-10 box posted on Splitcoaststampers. A few extras turn it into a backpack, and a couple others into Frankenstein. Alter the colors and add other embellishments for cute gift bags or backpacks! Have fun!
You'll need:
Paper:
- 1 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of Old Olive cardstock
- scraps of Whisper White, Old Olive, Basic Black
- Lovely Lilac cardstock, cut to 3x4 and scored in half (to 3x2)
- OPTIONAL: Old Olive cut to 2x2" and 2x3"
Ink:
- Always Artichoke
- white gel pen
- Basic Black Stampin' Write Marker
Accessories:
- Circle Punches - 1 1/4", 1/2"
- Sticky Strip tape
- eyelets of choice
- Elegant Eggplant 1/4" grosgrain ribbon (about 18")
- large silver brads
- traditional eyelet setter
- glue
- Velcro dots
- bone folder
- glue dots
Scoring & Cutting:
Take full sheet of Old Olive cardstock and place the 11" side against the top of your paper cutter/scorer. Score at 2, 5, 7 & 10 inches.
Turn the paper the other way (with the short side of the paper against the top) and score at 2 & 7 ". For best results, sharpen your creases with a bone folder.
Place your paper in a landscape orientation so that the 2" score line is across the top. Cut off all of the sections except the one pictured. This will become the flap (with hair).
Cut off the narrowest section from the 1.5" scored line on the bottom. Cut upwards from the bottom of the paper to the 1.5" score line along the rest of the vertical score lines.
Take the 4x3 Lovely Lilac paper (that's been scored in half) and fold it to 2x3". Cut ONE end in a spiky zig zag pattern for hair. Glue this to the 2" flap and the back of the box, lining up the score lines. The STRAIGHT edge should line up with the edge of the 2" flap on the top of the paper. See picture above.
On the narrowest 1" strip (this will be on your left when the 2" score line is on top), cut the corners off at an angle & put sticky strip tape to the left of the score line on this angled piece.
Box Portion:
Using an eyelet setter with the hole punch tip, punch 2 holes on the score line of the flap with the Lilac paper - 1/2" in from the sides.
Punch two holes in the top of the back - about 1/2" from the top score line and 1/2" in from each side. Set two eyelets in these holes.
Punch two holes in the bottom of the back - about 1/2" from the bottom score line and 1/2" in from each side. Set two eyelets in these holes.
Punch one hole on each of the side panels, centered, about 1" from the bottom. Place the large brads in these holes. (If you're mass producing, you could skip this step!)
Starting at one of the bottom holes, thread the ribbon from what will be the inside of the box. Come OUT of the bottom hole, and thread the ribbon INTO the top hole above it. Thread the ribbon OUT of the top hole on the score line and INTO the adjacent hole. OUT of the top hole on the other side and INTO the bottom hole. Secure ends inside the box with glue dots.

OPTIONAL - For pocket/pouch on backpack. For the Frankensteins, this step is not necessary. If you're going for the backpack look, this adds a lot!
Score the 3" side of the 2x3 piece of Old Olive at 1/4, 1/2, 2 1/2 & 2 3/4". Score the 2" side at 1/4 and 1/2". You'll have 1/4 and 1/2" score lines on 3 sides. Cut two corners off as pictured and crease along score lines.
For flap, score the 2x2" piece of Old Olive at 3/4 and 1". Cut a curved edge for the mouth. Attach the flap to the box, then attach the pouch. Use Velcro or glue dot to secure flap to pouch. Make sure to allow room for the hair flap and the eyes and nose!
Using the brush end of the Basic Black marker, color the curved edge of the flap black. Extend this line down the sides of the pouch and a little onto the box. Use the fine tip end and draw 'stitch' lines.

If you're not making a backpack, simply draw a curved, crooked smile with the brush end of the black marker and use the fine tip end and draw 'stitch' lines. I omitted this step on the box pictured at the top of this post. I'm mass producing them and wanted to save time. To see a box with the pouch, see this post.
Assemble box:
Remove backing from sticky strip and carefully line up and assemble the box.
On the bottom, fold the two small side flaps inwards, then one large flap. Place sticky strip on the remaining flap, remove the liner, fold it in and adhere.
Carefully pinch the top of the box together. You're pushing the front corners of the box to the back corners, while pushing the sides inwards.
Cut the straight Lilac flap in the same zig zag pattern that you used for the back of the hair.
Use Velcro dots on the underside of the flap and the front of the box to hold the flap down.
Eyes and Nose:
Cut two 1 1/4" circles from Old Olive scraps. Cut these in half. You'll need 3 half circles. Sponge edges with Always Artichoke ink.
Cut two 1 1/4" circles from Whisper White scraps.
Cut two 1/2" circles from Basic Black scraps.
Attach the black circles to the white ones. Add highlights to the black circles with a white gel pen.
Attach the eyes, eyelids and nose to each other. Flip this over and add dimensionals. Adhere to box.
